The story of Uber

Uber is a famous American company that offers different types of vehicles for different services. This company is based in San Francisco, it was founded in 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick.
Initially it was named UberCab, but it changed it's name to Uber due to the confusion with taxi cab services.
The idea for this service came during a New Year celebration, when Camp could not get a taxi and had to pay 800$ to hire a private car.
The initial business model was to launch on the market an app with which to order rides. Initially the company had only 3 luxury black-cabs and the ride prices were 1.5x normal ones.
The founders were familiar with startups. Camp is the co-founder of StumbleUpon (now defunct), and Kalanick founded and sold Red Swoosh.
The first employee is Ryan Graves who responded to a tweet from Kalanick looking for a general manager. He then became CEO and took over COO position.
Once the business developed and expanded in Chicago, Paris and other cities, it allowed drivers to use also their personal cars or to make ride-sharing.
Today Uber is the largest taxi company, without owning any cars. It operates on all continents, except Antarctica.
